Five Easy Camping Trips

Five Easy Camping Trips

South Africa is the country perfect for easy camping trips. Its beautiful coastal spots, rugged mountains, and serene desert landscapes offer a unique and exciting camping experience for all nature lovers.

But what are some of the easier spots to get to, when camping in South Africa? After all, getting away from work at five on a Friday afternoon leaves most with little time to travel to the destination, set up camp, and settle in.

So, where are South Africa’s easiest camping spots to visit?

Before we discuss the destinations, let’s provide you with some practical tips for a smooth camping experience.

Tips for Easy Camping Trips

Every camping spot will have its own set of rules and procedures. Make sure you read up about regulations and procedures; otherwise, your easy trip may well end before it begins.

The first step is to book your campsite in advance, especially if you plan to visit during peak season.

Ensure you understand the safety requirements of staying at the site, especially if wild animals are roaming around.

Next, double-check the camp site’s facilities. Do you have access to electricity and water? Is there a bathroom close by? For an easier trip, ensure your site has access to electricity, water, plumbing, and a kitchenette.

Also, check that the weather is in your favour closer to the departure date. Always pack clothes for all conditions.

Now that we’ve established these ground rules, let’s highlight some of South Africa’s easiest camping spots.

1.   Kogel Bay Resort

Just 45 minutes outside Cape Town, the Kogel Bay Resort is between Gordon’s Bay and Rooi Els, just off the famous Clarens Drive.

The Kogal Bay Resort hugs the coastline tightly and offers an uncomplicated, traditional camping experience. With a sandy beach within a few meters from most of the camping spots, expect to be engulfed by the relaxing sound of crashing waves.

The campsite also offers easy access to rock pools, surfing spots, and if you cross the road there are hiking trips up the mountain.

And with this location, you have uninterrupted views of False Bay.

Kogel Bay Resort is non-electrified. However, it offers guests access to:

  • – Ablutions
  • – Chalets
  • – Communal kitchen
  • – Braai spots
  • – As well as some accommodation options.

The campsite is run by the City of Cape Town and is booked well in advance.
