Although the year has started with us continuing to grapple with COVID-related issues, there also exists a sense of hope and excitement that greener pastures lie ahead. SABAT® Batteries has wasted little time in spreading some good cheer with its sponsorship of Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels New Year’s Edition, where five bursaries were presented to five deserving recipients.
AutoX, the parent company of SABAT Batteries, has shown its commitment to Good Morning Angels New Year’s Edition for the last couple of years and is firm of the belief that it is only by assisting our youth to get the education they deserve, that we can build the country we all would like to live in.
Corne Strydom, Sales and Marketing Executive at AutoX, says, “We truly respect the hard work put in by students under exceptional circumstances to get themselves to a place where they can actualise their dreams. By providing these bursaries to individuals who really deserve them, we are giving them that extra impetus which will propel them towards a future without limits.”
Amongst the individuals to receive bursaries from SABAT is Aviwe Mado. Born in deep rural Eastern Cape, his mother died when he was a young boy. Around the same time, he also developed an eye condition that left him blind. However, Aviwe was not deterred and with a passion to study Law, he managed to enrol at the University of Pretoria where he finished his bachelor’s degree in Social Science. Thereafter, he enrolled for LLB Law and passed his first year in 2021. However, it being his second degree, Aviwe did not qualify for a state bursary and required funds for his second year. SABAT stepped in to assist him with his tuition fees and Jacaranda with his res fees.
Tshegofatso Molele is described by his teacher as one of the most resilient and inspirational young men that she ever had the privilege of teaching. Tshegofatso obtained three distinctions and is starting with a diploma course at UJ for a semester before switching to LLB Law. His place in the res is booked and he qualifies for a bursary but with a shortfall in funds needed to start his first semester. Helping to make up this shortfall and kickstart Tshegofatso’s University journey, SABAT has awarded him a bursary worth R50 000.
18-year-old Cisca Botha from Pretoria was born with a rare eye condition that has left her with only 5% vision. Despite this, she managed to matriculate with four distinctions. To earn an income, Cisca currently tutors other children and has been granted a partial scholarship to study Law at Varsity College. For her to fulfil her dreams of becoming a lawyer, SABAT is assisting Cisca with a R50 000 bursary towards her Law Degree studies at Varsity College.
Arthur McGee, a sports lover from Nelspruit, is his parent’s only child. In primary school, he played Craven-week rugby for the Pumas, becoming the first deaf player to do so. Initially destined for a special needs school, Arthur insisted that he wanted to go to a “normal” school in his hometown. His mother convinced the principal to give him a chance and the rest is history. Arthur will start his Industrial Engineering studies at the University of Pretoria next month and SABAT Batteries will assist Arthur with his first year Industrial Engineering studies at Tuks by covering the R55 000 needed for his tuition fees.
Thato Malia has never given up on her dream to become an accountant. After matriculating in 2016, she was not accepted at her chosen university, but she didn’t give up. In 2018, Thato enrolled for and achieved a Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences. She has now been accepted to study Accounting at Unisa, helping her advance one step closer to her dreams. SABAT Batteries will assist Thato with the R18 000 she needs to cover her 2022 tuition fees. Corne Strydom concludes by saying, “We are proud that we can lend a hand in the lives of our youth. We look forward to seeing how the recipients of these bursaries do in the future. We wish them the best of luck”.
